Automation and Robotics Showcase in An Lochran, Inverness on 6-7 February 2019.

Automation and Robotics technology are a proven enabler of productivity and efficiency gains.

This two-day event in Inverness will help you gain an insight into the latest robotic and automation technologies to help you make informed decisions about the most suitable technologies to invest in to improve your efficiency and productivity.

Hosted by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), the event will showcase support, information and expertise available for a business wanting to adopt Robotics and Automation.

The showcase is aimed at the Manufacturing, Technology and Advanced Engineering, Construction and Timber Industries and is an event you can’t afford to miss.

Demonstrations will include Robots and cobots from Universal Robots (UR), Franka Panda, Amy Robot, Sawyer Cobot and Industrial robots from Kuka Robotics.

Talks include:

Robotics – Collaborative vs. co-operative – George Paterson, Mitsubishi Electric will talk about the difference between traditional robot arms and collaborative, where a robot should be introduced to a manufacturing process and the pros and cons of robot arms compared to collaborative robots. Mitsubishi Electric

CoBots Applied - Overview of Collaborative Robots (CoBots) and their uses, including how to make the best of their applications to work alongside shop floor workers and staff from the High-Speed Sustainable Manufacturing Institute (HSSMI).

Testing Automation without the Cost - Automation can be daunting. Will it work? Will I see the benefits? Will it cost more to maintain? How do you safeguard yourself from these pitfalls? Bots.co.uk pride themselves on being the only UK company offering robot hire by the hour. Tim from Bots will talk about two recent projects where automation was introduced by trialling robot hire. He’ll give some real examples where their clients have adopted Robots and he’ll talk about examples where clients trialled Robot tech but found that current Robot tech didn’t fit the bill and why. Bots.co.uk

How to Fast-Track an IoT Solution. Dr Cade Wells, a Chartered Engineer at CENSIS will talk about IoT sensors from device selection, trade-offs in power v distance v bandwidth, connecting to the cloud and importantly how to turn sensor data into actionable information using dashboards and apps. Centre for Excellence in Sensors and Imaging Systems (CENSIS)

Robot Enabled Sensing - This talk will look at agile and adaptable automation for Manufacturing and Inspection. Guest speaker Dr. Charles N. MacLeod is from the Centre for Ultrasonic Engineering (CUE), Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering University of Strathclyde Technology and Innovation Centre.

Foresight Review on Robotic and Autonomous Systems – There's a revolution happening. Smart, connected machines, or robotics and autonomous systems (RAS), are acting as tools to support us, working alongside us or alone, making independent decisions and even learning. The drivers for this revolution are primarily economic – these systems make us more productive, mobile and connected, able to compete in a globalised world economy. They remove operators from hazardous environments and tedious jobs, taking on the dull, dirty and dangerous tasks. What does it mean for Manufacturing in Scotland? David Lane, Professor and Founding Director at the Edinburgh Centre for Robotics
